Barron Creek Farm
Who do we feed?
Barron Creek Farm grows on our roughly 1 acre farm space, just in the last two seasons, we donated over 14,000 pounds of fresh produce. Partnering with local food groups and community organizations, our produce feeds individuals and families in San Mateo, Santa Cruz, and Santa Clara Counties.
Organizations we work with include South Palo Alto Food Closet, Fresh Approach, Sunnyvale Community Services, West Valley Community Services and more.
Our Journey
-
2017
Founder and Executive Director, Gen, always dreamed of growing fresh produce and sharing it with others. Often donating the over abundance of cherry tomatoes from her personal garden.
In 2017, Gen created Whitstable Farm to test the concept of small scale farming, with the goal of feeding people in the community that were most in need.
Focussing on homesteading the land, Jerusha joined contributing to the effort.
-
2020
In 2020 Jerusha began introducing beneficial flowers to the farm, creating habitats for essential pollinators and predatory insects, that naturally controlled pests and promoted biodiversity for the farm and the environment.
As the farm team grew with each season, the farmers not only expanded infrastructure, and refined systems, but they were able to support a CSA delivery box program and donate fresh produce to local food banks and community groups , always focusing on organic and regenerative agricultural practices, and always keeping it local and fresh.
-
2023
With the goal of becoming a non profit farm, that solely focused on providing fresh, organic, local produce to partnering community groups, and food banks
Barron Creek Farm was created! Sharing the land with Whitstable Farm.
-
2024
With a fresh set of eyes,
Ethan and Zach joined
Barron Creek Farms seeking to implement many of the core principles of their UC Davis Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems curriculum, including regenerative agriculture practices focused on soil health, biodiversity, and closing input loops, agricultural education, and community building - all with a larger goal of promoting food sovereignty across communities and empowering the food insecure.
